We are tring hard to feed some of the most needy with 20 to 50 haitian dollars ,
Yesterday , the missionary ladies send some people to Paulette (18 miles from Fort-Liberte ) to bring food to the needy there
We are giving money for food to the people of the Welcome Center
The 6 Supervisers of the JBC have received 500 + 250 to take care of people in need of food
Huricane Ike had partially destroyed 3 roofs that we are helping to repair : Jeanty will be back to his house this week , We are working on Willem’case . Gaelle’s parents were obliged to live in a house that I have rent for them for 800 dollars .
I have given 400 haitian dollars to 2 outpost leaders who reported some damaged houses
We are helping many sponsored children and their parents . That is one of the reasons why I have asked Terry to send Sept check early this week .
have more infos that I shall communicate you later .
Once more please give my best thanks to all .

Fort Liberte website

September 19, 2008

For those of you who know any bit of French (even if you don’t, you can probably still navigate through the site to look at the pictures) here is a website of a Haitian in Fort Liberte.  It’s pretty interesting.  It has a lot of pictures of Ft. Liberte, news, and stories of the Fort Liberte area.  If any of you got cards from your sponsor child last year that had a photograph on the front, this is they guy who made it.

Hello all!

I know all of you have heard about the hurricane devastation in Haiti, and a lot of you saw the heart breaking pictures on the screen in church last Sunday. We as a church collected an amazing $3000 that morning, but we can’t stop there.
A lot of you who are reading this have been to Haiti, and when you hear about the awful things taking place there, a face of a certain orphan or friend pops in your head.  For me, I see my sponsor child, Kendy…and it makes it that much harder.
For those of you who haven’t been to Haiti, I know you’ve heard enough stories and have seen enough pictures to know that these people are amazing and are like family…..scratch that…ARE family.
So… here is where YOU come in.
There is a Haitian proverb that we quote over and over that says “With many hands, the load is not heavy.” And I think it’s relevant now, more than ever.  A few of us have decided to put together a yard sale and donate 100% of the money to help our friends in Haiti. But we need YOUR help. We are asking for your participation.  We all have junk in our house that we don’t need…. we all have toys and gadgets that we don’t play with… .we all have clothes that we don’t wear.  We all have too much stuff!  So what do you say we get rid of it and help the people that need it the most.
So… here is YOUR job. Go through your houses and forward this email to all your friends and ask everyone you can to help.  Let’s collect as much as we can for 2 weeks and get ready for this yard sale.  The plan as of right now is to have the yard sale the weekend of October 4.  We will let everyone know the location and the times ASAP.  But for right now, get together as much as you can and do your best to get it to me.  You can either contact me by this email or call my cell 669-3438.  If you have too much stuff and need someone to pick it up, Jarrod Marozzi has offered to do so.  You can email him atTally111@aol.com or call him at 629-4955.
This is a HUGE opportunity for us all to help out and make a difference, so I hope you all are interested in getting involved. Let’s see what we can do!

Newest Email from Pastor Andre

September 16, 2008

Here is our latest email from Pastor Andre. For right now, if you do have some money to spare for this emergency situation,  the fastest way to get the money to Ft. Liberte is through Western Union.
Dear friends ,
I have received a couple of e-mails telling about food sent to Haiti . If it is the case, I do not know yet and it will not be easy to get that food .
If you know people willing to send money to help us with our very bad situation , you can tell them that the fastest way now is to use this following address :
Mario Andre Jean , Eglise Baptiste Jerusalem , Western Union , Fort-Liberte HAITI
Last week , we were obliged to go to Dajabon to buy food supplies . But , this morning , Claudin and I were able to find what we need to food the children in Cap Haitien .The main problem is that every thing is more expensive . If you have some money at our disposal this month , please send it through Western Union .
Yours gratefully more than ever ,
Andre

Thank you!

Thank you to everyone who has given money to Friends of Ft. Liberte in the aftermath of the hurricanes!

2 Corinthians 9:6-15

Remember this: Whoever sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and whoever sows generously will also reap generously. Each man should give what he has decided in his heart to give, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver. And God is able to make all grace abound to you, so that in all things at all times, having all that you need, you will abound in every good work. As it is written: “He has scattered abroad his gifts to the poor; his righteousness endures forever.”[a] Now he who supplies seed to the sower and bread for food will also supply and increase your store of seed and will enlarge the harvest of your righteousness. You will be made rich in every way so that you can be generous on every occasion, and through us your generosity will result in thanksgiving to God. This service that you perform is not only supplying the needs of God’s people but is also overflowing in many expressions of thanks to God. Because of the service by which you have proved yourselves, men will praise God for the obedience that accompanies your confession of the gospel of Christ, and for your generosity in sharing with them and with everyone else. And in their prayers for you their hearts will go out to you, because of the surpassing grace God has given you. Thanks be to God for his indescribable gift!

Here is an interesting video talking about the health crisis that will probably occur as a result of standing water with decomposing bodies in the affected areas of Haiti.

Emails from Pastor Andre

September 11, 2008

Recent hurricanes have affected Haiti in a major way.  Luckily, Ft. Liberte wasn’t directly hit by Hannah, Gustav or Ike!  Food prices have shot up again as a result of the hurricanes. In order to off set the extremely high cost of food, Ft. Liberte needs our help. Please give as much as possible to this worthy cause.  Our friends in Ft. Liberte are our brothers and sisters in Christ and as Christians it is our duty to support them. Thank you for your support! Here are a few emails we received from Pastor Andre concerning Hurricane Ike.

September 6, 2008
Dear friends ,
Things are very bad here . I could not have access to internet because of very severe weather . Haiti had suffered from Fay ,Gustav and Hanna . There is flood in many regions of our country . Gonaives was inundated once more  . Lot of houses had been destroyed .
My older sister , Lamercie , is living there . I talked to her daily since one of my students was able to find her and put me into contact with her  , She says she has lost everything , .She told me that she has been pulled up to the top of her 2 stores house by neighbours, for she could not do it by herself .She insists that I do not go to Gonaives now because there is no roads . Many bridges collapsed , the water is still very high in some areas of the city  . There is no streets , but just mud everywere . People left there homes on time , they still have in mind what Jeanne did in Gonaives some years ago .
Now the Norh East is under Ike . Strong winds and floods are the threats . Fort Liberte ‘s people are asked not to sleep to night , but to stay awake just in case of disasters and inundation . The winds started to blow one hour ago , and it is completely dark outside . Praise God , we did not suffered to much from the previous storms . But This one , Ike , is already a category 4 . Its eye is still in the Atlantic according to CBS and ABC . Please , Continue to pray for us . It is a miracle that I can write you this evening .
Your friend ,
Andre

September 7, 2008
Dear friends ,
We are still alive , Praise God , the Huricane has made kind of turn that has helped spare Fort Liberte . But there are many stories of floods at 4 or 5 miles from us . This morning we are having rain and winds from time to time , but not heavy and strong at all . Last night we had moved the girls and the children of the orphanage . They have spent the night at our auditorium . Now Ike is on its way to Turks and Caicos . The first worship service has just started . Bye now . Continue to pray
Andre
